Before you start

Does my recording leave my device?

Melody detection uses Spotify Basic Pitch in your browser. Your original audio is not uploaded. When you create a performance, only the detected notes in MusicXML are sent to the private MakePip music processor. Results expire after one hour.

How accurate is it?

This is a beta for one clear melody. Noise, breath, slides and overlapping sounds can cause missed notes or octave errors. Notes are snapped to musical pitches; expressive voice qualities are replaced with instrument samples.

Which audio files work?

WAV, MP3, M4A, WebM, OGG and FLAC, if your browser can decode them. Clips must be between half a second and 30 seconds, up to 10 MB. WAV or MP3 is the safest choice.

How do I correct a note?

Download MIDI or MusicXML and edit the notes in a music application. Corrected MusicXML can be uploaded in the Sheet music tab.

Do I need an AI account?

No. The open-source Basic Pitch model runs on your device. Detection may take longer on slower devices. Microphone recording requires browser permission.
