Document to Word
Turn scans, page photos and handwritten notes into an editable Word document. Review the recognized text before saving your DOCX.
OCR currently works best with English print and clear English handwriting. Handwriting is beta. The DOCX contains editable text and page breaks; complex columns, tables, diagrams and original fonts may need adjustment. Source-image references are separate from editable text.
How to use Document to Word
- 1Choose PDFs or page photos and arrange them in reading order.
- 2Allow private OCR for scanned or handwritten pages, then review and correct the extracted text.
- 3Download an editable DOCX, optionally including source images for reference.
Before you start
Is the Word document editable?
Yes. Recognized or extracted text is written as real Word paragraphs, with page breaks. It is not just a document containing screenshots. Complex tables, columns, illustrations and fonts may need manual rebuilding.
Can it read handwriting?
Clear English handwriting is supported in beta by the OCR model. Cursive, faint writing, crossed-out words and mathematical notation can be misread. Review names, numbers and punctuation before using the result.
Where do my documents go?
Selectable PDF text is extracted on your device. Pages that need OCR are sent only after permission to MakePip’s private CPU processor, read in memory, and not retained. The resulting DOCX is assembled in your browser. No external AI API receives your pages.
Can I use iPhone photos?
JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC and single-page TIFF images are accepted. OCR reads one image up to 20 MB and 36 megapixels at a time; PDF pages are rendered to manageable images in the browser. HEIC and TIFF reference previews may be unavailable in some browsers.
