Give the subject a clear outline

Automatic background removal works by estimating which pixels belong to the main subject. A single object, visible in full and separated from the background, is a useful starting point. Similar colors on both sides of an edge make that decision harder. When taking a new photo, leave space around the subject and use even light instead of strong shadows.

Expect difficult edges

Hair, fur, glass, thin wires and translucent fabric do not have simple solid boundaries. The remover can leave fringes or cut away fine details. Inspect the result against both a dark and a light background; an edge that looks clean on white can show a pale halo on black. A cutout is a starting point for editing rather than a promise of a perfect mask.

Use PNG when transparency matters

PNG can store a transparent alpha channel. JPEG cannot. If you convert a transparent cutout to JPEG using MakePip, the transparent area becomes white. WebP also supports transparency and can be a useful web format, but check that your destination accepts it. The checkerboard in the preview represents transparency and is not part of the downloaded PNG.

Keep size and quality separate

A large photo is not always a better input. A clear, well-lit subject at a sensible resolution can work better than a blurry high-resolution picture. For website images, resize to approximately the size needed in the layout rather than uploading a full camera original. MakePip's browser image tools can reduce dimensions or convert the format without uploading the source image.

Read the processing label

Background removal uses MakePip's private worker. Unlike the browser-only compression and conversion tools, it sends the selected image for processing. Confirm the processing notice before starting. Use images you have permission to edit, and avoid sending sensitive material you do not want handled by the service. Requests can wait in a bounded queue while the worker is offline or busy.

Save and check the result

Creative results remain available through your browser session for 24 hours after completion. Download the PNG promptly and reopen it in an image editor or a page with a contrasting background. If the subject is partly missing, try a photo with clearer contrast and fewer competing objects. For a catalog or brand project, keep consistent framing, lighting and output dimensions across all images.
